Response Teams
Emergency Response Team
Since 2003, the county has organized and maintained a County Emergency Response Team. The purpose of the team is to pool together responders from different jurisdictions and disciplines within the county in order to develop a team of trained technical experts that can be utilized to assist local jurisdictions in the assessment, mitigation, and recovery of a major event. By pooling together several highly trained responders from each entity, the county is able to assist others without depleting any one jurisdiction's resources. The Team consists of personnel members from emergency management, fire departments, hazardous material experts, law enforcement agencies, medical professionals, and public works specialist

All team members attend specialized training and train together at least once a month. Team training consist of, but is not limited to, Basic First Aid, Jaws of Life, Airbags, HazMat trainings, Urban Search and Rescue, Air Monitoring, Dive Rescue, Trench Rescue, Rope Rescue, Confined Space, and Decontamination training.

Weather Team

The purpose of the Rankin County Weather Team is to have trained weather spotters in the field reporting information to the County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) who then relays the information to Public Safety Officials and the National Weather Service located at the Jackson Evers International Airport that is all located within Rankin County’s boundaries.

The Weather Team was started in late 2003 with approximately fifteen members. The Team currently includes twenty-five members that are activated via alpha-numeric pagers. The County EOC has several weather radar inlets that we are able monitor and receive local weather information. We have a State of the Art Emergency Notification Siren System. The Emergency Notification System is used to notify the General Public of not only weather related threats, but also any type threat that our citizens needs to be notified of.
